MAILBOX ISSUE
Vote-by-Mail Needs a Mailbox
You can help!

The drive-up mailbox at the St. Charles post office has been out of service for months. This drive-up service is critical to Vote by Mail voters. We are told that a new one has been ordered but the delay has been quite extensive for no obvious reason.

We encourage you to mail or call the Postmaster General Patrice Bobo to replace this mailbox as soon as possible.

Dear Postmaster General Patrice Bobo,
The drive-up mailbox at the St. Charles post office at 2600 Oak St. has been out of service for months. It’s rusty and falling apart, and a sign has been posted on it instructing patrons to walk inside to drop off their mail.
While walking inside is an option for a short period of time, doing so is not a viable long-term alternative for people with disabilities, people with young children in the car, or people anticipating a quick visit to the post office. Our tax dollars support a functioning local post office, and right now, a significant part of our post office is not functioning as it should (and hasn’t been for months).
Mail-in voting has begun for Illinois primaries, and an out-of-order mailbox at one of the biggest post offices in the area is a significant impediment to submitting mail-in ballots. Elections play a major role in maintaining a strong democracy, and we expect our government systems to work together in holding fully fair and free elections.
I ask that you immediately prioritize replacing this mailbox in St. Charles so as to maintain full service in this community and remove this barrier to mail-in voting.
Sincerely,
